The Medical Staff Surgeon must be a qualified medical doctor, who has successfully completed a U.S. residency in their surgical specialty. He/She must be licensed to practice medicine in the United States Virgin Islands and must be board certified in their specialty within 5 years of joining the organization. He/She must be credentialed in Schneider Regional Medical Center as an associate or active member with appropriate privileges in surgery to admit, evaluate, treat and provide consultation and necessary surgical diagnostic and interventional procedures to patients 18 years of age and up presenting with surgical problems requiring surgical management specific to your surgical specialty. Follow established surgical techniques, related to your surgical specialty, during the operation. Operate on patients to correct deformities, repair injuries, prevent and treat diseases, or improve or restore patients’ function. Analyze patients’ medical history, medication allergies, physical conditions, and examination results to verify operation’s necessity to determine best procedure. Prescribe preoperative and postoperative treatments and procedures, such as sedatives, diets, antibiotics, and preparation and treatment, of the patient’s operative area. Diagnose bodily disorders and provide treatment, related to your surgical specialty, such as medicines and surgeries, in clinics, hospital wards, and operating rooms. Provide consultation and surgical assistance, related to your surgical specialty, to other physicians and surgeons and to direct and coordinate activities of nurses, assistants, specialists, residents, and other medical staff. Refer patients to medical specialist or other practitioners when necessary. Prepare case history, maintain timely, detailed and accurate patient records through our EHR (electronic health record) system and schedule follow-up visits with patients to ensure continuing health.
